Black cockatoos demand your attention wherever they go!
I love to draw Black cockatoos, they are big and beautiful, and somehow always look like they are in cruise control when flying. Like they know they are the cool kids in town. Each with a splash of colour to their tail, and screech to recon with any around.
Do you know the myth? When you see them arrive rain will soon follow. Count how many cockatoos you see, and it will be that many days of rain
Five Feathered Friends:
There are five distinct species of black cockatoos found in Australia, not just one! These include the Red-tailed, Yellow-tailed, Baudin’s, Carnaby’s, and Glossy Black Cockatoo [Australian Geographic].
Sadly, Four out of five of Australia’s black cockatoo species are under threat nationally https://www.acf.org.au/black-cockatoos. Habitat loss and competition for resources are the main culprits.
