Why Black and White? The Power of Animal Sketches

As a child, my world was painted in shades of imagination, where each black and white sketch held a universe of emotions. This simplicity, the absence of colour, didn’t limit but rather expanded the realms of my creativity. It’s this foundational joy and purity that I bring into each piece of art I create today at Running Duck Studio.

This world of monochrome, stripped of the cacophony of colors, invites us into a dance of light and shadow where emotions are the lead. Here, in the starkness, the essence of each animal leaps forth, unadorned yet strikingly vivid. It’s a realm where the minimalist becomes majestic, allowing the soul of the artwork to connect with ours, unfettered and pure. Through this simplicity, we find a mirror to our own emotions, a reflection of the untold stories in the heart of nature.

Emotional Moments

Each piece I craft aims to seize a fleeting moment, an unspoken conversation, or a shared glance with our non-human companions. A dog’s stance, poised with loyalty and anticipation, or a cat’s mid-pounce mischief, are moments where color fades into the background, and the raw emotions take center stage. It’s in these snapshots that the whimsical nature of life itself is celebrated, reminding us of the bonds we share with the animal kingdom.

Why did the pencil sketch stop drawing itself? Because it realized it was a bit sketchy and didn't want to draw any conclusions!
