An embracing couple in expressive black ink, a tender farewell caught in sweeping brushstrokes and splatter.
Two figures cling to each other, heads bowed, bodies folded into one another as if letting go were physically impossible. I Will Always Miss You is an original black ink drawing that catches the exact moment a farewell becomes real: the last tightening of arms, a face pressed into a shoulder, the silence that follows the words neither person wants to say. There is no background to soften it. Just two people, the white of the paper around them, and the weight of what they are holding onto.
The drawing is built from sweeping, gestural strokes of black ink, laid down fast and left unpolished. Some lines are heavy and wet, pooling where the brush pressed hardest. Others dry to a rasping scratch as the bristles run out of ink mid-stroke. Splatters fall around the couple like something between rain and tears, a controlled accident that gives the piece its raw, urgent energy. Working in monochrome strips the scene back to what matters. Without colour, your eye follows the movement of the brush itself, the push and drag of every stroke, the places where the artist let the ink decide.
Country life knows this kind of goodbye. Distance is simply part of it; children move to the city, friends take work interstate, and the people you love are often hours away rather than around the corner. That is the feeling this piece holds. Not despair, but the ache of loving someone you cannot keep close, and the comfort of remembering how it felt to hold them. For collectors of contemporary figurative art it sits in the tradition of expressive ink work, where a handful of confident strokes carry more feeling than any amount of careful detail. It suits a bedroom, a hallway, a reading corner, anywhere you pause rather than pass through.
The drawing was made at Running Duck Studio in Queensland, Australia, where every piece starts with a loaded brush, plenty of paper, and no way to undo a mark. Ink is unforgiving; a stroke either works or the sheet is set aside, so what you receive is the sheet that worked. This is a one-of-a-kind original, not a print, and it arrives framed and ready to hang. Look closely and you will find the small irregularities that come with handmade work, the flecks and feathered edges no reproduction carries. They are part of what you are collecting.
